INTRODUCTION

Farmers everywhere depend on access to good quality seed as the foundation to their crop production system. At the same time, easy access to quality seed can be achieved and guaranteed only if there is a viable seed supply system to multiply and distribute seeds that have been produced or preserved.
Darusalam Seed Company (DASE) is a sustainable seed company and delivers agricultural seeds, fertilizers and other farm inputs and machineries those supports all farmers in Somalia. DASE is focused on empowering farmers (large and small) to produce more from their land while conserving more of our country’s natural resources such as water and energy. We do this with our leading seed brands in crops like maize, sesame, fruits, vegetables and etc.
DASE could not exist without farmers. They are our customers (the lifeblood of our company). More important, they are the support system of the Somali economy, working day in and day out to feed, clothe and provide energy for our region.

BACKGROUND

Darussalam Seed Company was established in 2007. In Pre-war era, DASE had very close contacts and collaborations with the established Agricultural Institutions in the periods of 1980 to 1990. Working under the specialized Institutions in crop production, this actual Seed Company gained extensive improved packages and production practices of different crops, in particularly maize and Sesame main staple and cash crops where the Seed Company is actually operating.

The Seed Company of Darussalam worked voluntarily with the Seed Multiplication Centre, Agricultural Research Station and Agricultural Extension Projects and Faculty of Agriculture of the Somali National University all located at Afgoi. These Institutions in the pre-war were supported by USAID, FAO and Italian Government and Ministry of Agriculture of the Somali Democratic Republic.

The actual Darussalam Seed Company has maintained and preserved, somehow, the characteristic purity of “SOMTUX” maize developed in the pre-war era; moreover, DASE know how experience gained from the pre-war institutions led to the formation of Seed Company at Darussalam.

To introduce new crop variets and use it effectively. To enhance seed production, processing and marketing. To provide training/extension and other seed related services to the farmers. To link the partners with the farmers by developing strategically placed units where contract farmers are; and To promote use of and market certified seed and fertilizers
WHAT DASE BELIEVE
At the heart of DASE is a very clear and principled code of conduct – one we expect all employees, contractors and management to live by every day. We operate under a genuine value system “our pledge” that demonstrates integrity, respect, ethical behavior, perspective and honesty as a foundation for everything we do. A key part of fulfilling the promise of our value system is by engaging our communities in a significant and positive manner. Not only do we work hard to support the family farmer in a variety of ways, but we also: Provide extensive training programs – particularly in science and agriculture – for farmers, agriculture secondary schools and agriculture university students. Work in partnership with non-profit agencies and advocacy groups to make agriculture more sustainable.
